The Luban #62 Low Angle Jack Plane from Qiangsheng Tool Co. is an excellent value-for-money choice for beginners looking for a straightforward, versatile, multi-function tool as their first premium bench plane, and also for seasoned woodworkers looking for an inexpensive Low Angle Bevel Up Bench Plane.
With the 25-degree blade installed, the low effective pitch makes it a superb choice for shooting end grain and planing mild straight-grained timber.
The Luban #62 Low Angle Jack Plane has an adjustable mouth that can be closed up for precision work or opened for heavier stock removal. The side wings provide ample stability for shooting without restricting access to the blade, lever cap, and adjuster.
T10 Steel, also known as Tool Steel or High Speed Steel is the designation for an alloy made of Carbon steel and Tungsten (W1 in the United States of America). The alloy contains a higher tenor of Carbon compared to other Carbon Steels (about 1%) and a small fraction of silicon (0.35%).
I don't bother with reviews much, but this is worth commenting on.
The #62 low angle is designed for end grain, and it does a great job. I bought the 50 degree blade also which I recommend doing because it is really good for difficult grain. I build guitars, and I needed something that works on grain that usually tears out with standard 45 degree planes. Blades that are sharpened and honed properly are extremely important. This is truly a great quality tool.
The #62 Low angle Jack Plane from Luban exceeded all of my expectations.
Not only is the plane incredibly well made and finished off, it performed remarkably straight out of the box.
A lovely tool, Bubinga knob and tote, smooth adjustment and all round heft make this the best Low Angle Bevel Up Plane on the South African market by far.
I believe that Toolcraft will have the accessory 38º and 50º blades coming in of the next shipment. Can't wait!
And with a 5 year guarantee, it is unbeatable!
