Bench Grinders and accessories

Bench grinders are stationary tools used for sharpening chisels, blades and drill bits, shaping metal parts and removing burrs.  They feature twin grinding wheels, adjustable tool rests and spark guards.  Choose coarse and fine grits to handle both rapid material removal and honing.

What is a bench grinder used for?

Bench grinders are stationary tools used primarily for:

  • Sharpening chisels, drill bits, mower blades, and other tools

  • Deburring and smoothing metal edges or welds

  • Shaping and polishing metal, plastic, and wood components (with appropriate wheels)
    They’re a staple in metalworking, woodworking, automotive workshops, and general maintenance shops.

What types of grinding wheels can be used with a bench grinder?

Bench grinders support a variety of wheel types, such as:

  • Aluminum oxide wheels for general grinding on steel

  • Silicon carbide wheels for non-ferrous metals and carbide tools

  • Wire wheels for rust or paint removal

  • Buffing wheels for polishing and honing
    Always check the wheel diameter and bore size (e.g. 150 mm or 200 mm) and ensure it matches your grinder’s spec. Never exceed the maximum RPM rating of the wheel.

What features should I look for in a bench grinder?

Key features include:

  • Motor power: ranges from 250W for light-duty to 750W+ for industrial grinding

  • Wheel size: common sizes are 150 mm (6″) and 200 mm (8″)

  • Adjustable tool rests and eye shields for safety and precision

  • Spark deflectors and rubber feet for stability

  • Dual wheel setup for coarse and fine grinding in one unit
    Some models also feature LED lights, slow-speed operation (around 1450 RPM) for better control, or built-in cooling trays for sharpening.
