Optical Levels

Optical levels (builder’s levels) allow accurate levelling over long distances.  They use telescopes and spirit vials to measure differences in height between points, useful in construction and landscaping.

What is an optical level used for?

How is an optical level different from a laser level?
An optical level requires manual sighting through a telescope and often a leveling staff for readings, while a laser level projects a visible line or dot. Optical levels excel in long-distance outdoor work, whereas laser levels are faster to set up for general alignment.

What’s the correct way to set up an optical level?
Place it securely on a tripod, use the built-in bubble vial to level it, and fine-tune with the adjustment screws. Always ensure the tripod is stable and on firm ground to avoid errors in readings.
