Hand Saws

Hand Saws for woodworking are generally divided in "Spined" and Non-Spined categories.

Spined Hand Saws have a spine of stout heavy metal, usually brass or steel running the length of the blade. This spine causes the blade to run straight, not to buckle under tension and to add weight to the sawing action.

Types of Spined or Back Saws:

  • Dovetail Saw
  • Tenon Saw
  • Carcass Saw
  • Sash Saw
  • Guitar Saw
  • Gentlemen's Saw
  • Japanese Dozuki

Non-Spined Hand Saws generally have thicker blades than their spined cousins and are usually much larger and longer.

Types of Non-Spined Saws:

  • Panel Saw
  • Crosscut Saw
  • Rip Saw
  • Japanese Ryoba
  • Two Man Saw
