UV-Protection-Oil-EXTRA Clear Satin with Film Protection 750ml

CLEAR NATURAL OIL-BASED UV PROTECTIVE FINISH

Osmo UV-Protection Oil EXTRA 420 is a satin-matt, natural oil based and microporous finish that does not crack, flake, peel or blister. It is water and dirt resistant, moisture regulating and reduces wood swelling and shrinkage. The natural oils enhance the natural character and tone of the wood.

Osmo UV-Protection Oil EXTRA 420 contains highly effective fungicides & biocides to prevent the growth of algae, mildew and fungal attack.

Recommended Use

Osmo UV-Protection-Oil EXTRA 420 is ideal for all vertical wood surfaces in outdoor areas: doors, windows, window shutters (dimensionally stable elements), carports, timber cladding, balconies, fences, pergolas, garden sheds and Wendy houses (dimensionally unstable elements).

As a top-coat on already colour treated wood, it prolongs the renovation intervals.

As a single product application, it blocks the greying process with a UV  protection factor of 12 in comparison to untreated wood.

Difference beween Osmo UV-Protection-Oil 410 and Osmo UV-Protection-Oil-Extra 420:

While both products provide a clear, satin finish with very low V.O.C content and are made from a unique combination of natural oils and waxes, the main difference between the Osmo UV Protection Oil (410) and Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra (420) is that the 420 contains fungicides and biocides to protect against mould, algae and fungal growth. For this reason, the 410, which doesn’t contain fungicides and biocides, can be used on interior and exterior wood surfaces whereas the 420 is designated for exterior use only.

Advantages

  • Clear Natural Oil-based finish with  UV-Protection Factor 12
  • Very water and dirt resistant
  • Reduces wood swelling and shrinkage
  • Osmo UV-Protection-Oil EXTRA 420 is safe for humans, plants and animals once dry
  • Microporous, breathable finish which does not crack, peel, flake or blister
  • No sanding necessary for future applications

Preparation

Ensure that wood surfaces to be treated with Osmo UV Protection Oil 420 are clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%).

NEW WOOD

  1. Surfaces should be sanded with a 120 grit abrasive and no finer
  2. New wood and especially hardwoods should be allowed to weather for approximately 6 weeks prior to oiling
  3. De-grease surfaces with methylated spirit or Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner (8000) before oiling
  4. Fill any holes or gaps with an exterior gap sealer

Please Note: Allowing the wood to weather, especially dense exotic hardwoods, enables the tight, dense grain of the timber to open up. This makes it easier to apply the oil and allows it to penetrate deeper in to the wood grain.

OLD WOOD

  1. Clean old microporous finishes (wood oils) thoroughly
  2. Areas affected by mould, algae and moss must be cleaned and treated
  3. Old paints, lacquers and varnish like stains must be completely removed
  4. The colour of timber that has turned grey / silver over time can be restored prior to oiling with Osmo Wood Reviver Gel (6609)
  5. Then treat as new wood

Application

Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the tin at all times.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during application
  2. Where possible treat all sides of the timber prior to installation
  3. Apply protection oil thinly along the wood grain with a natural bristle brush
  4. Work the oil into the surface of the wood grain
  5. Wipe of any excess with a clean, lint-free cloth
  6. Allow to fully dry
  7. Apply a second coat as above

Aftercare

REGULAR CLEANING

Oiled surfaces can be regularly cleaned with a suitable exterior spray cleaner that won’t strip away the waxes and oils.

RENOVATION

When renovation is required, ensure that surfaces are clean and dry.

  1. Lightly sand or use a stiff brush to remove surface dirt and debris
  2. Apply a thin maintenance coat of Osmo UV Protection Oil, taking care to work the oil in to the surface of the wood and wiping off any excess
  3. For wood that has become discoloured or is showing signs of mould, algae or moss, refer to the preparation and application sections above
