Speed Files

Speedfiles are abrasive holders that accept sanding belts or strips.  They allow you to sand surfaces by hand with improved grip and control, ideal for bodywork and woodworking.

What are speed files used for?
Speed files are designed to remove material quickly and efficiently from metal, wood, or plastic. Their coarse teeth and unique cutting pattern make them ideal for shaping, smoothing welds, or cleaning up rough edges.

How do speed files differ from standard files?
Speed files have more aggressive teeth and often a curved or specialised profile to maximise material removal with fewer strokes. They’re better suited for rapid shaping, while standard files are used for finer finishing.

How can I make my speed file last longer?
Use light, even pressure to avoid dulling the teeth, clean the file regularly with a file card, and store it so the teeth don’t rub against other tools. Avoid using it on materials harder than it’s designed for, as this can chip the cutting edges.
