What’s the difference between screws, fasteners, and clamps?

  • Screws and fasteners are used to permanently or semi-permanently join materials together, usually wood, metal, or plastic.

  • Hose and pipe clamps are designed to secure flexible hoses or rigid pipes, preventing leaks or separation under pressure.

How do I choose the right type of fastener for my project?
Consider the material, load requirements, and environment. For example, stainless steel fasteners are best for outdoor or corrosive conditions, while wood screws are designed with coarse threads for strong holding power in timber.

What’s the correct way to use hose and pipe clamps?
Slide the clamp over the hose before fitting it to the pipe or fitting, then position the clamp over the connection point and tighten evenly. Avoid overtightening, as this can damage the hose or fitting.
