The production of Pfeil Carving Tools is based upon a very long tradition of craftsmanship.

The company was founded in 1902 in Langenthal, Switzerland as a fabricator of cutting tools. Still a family-owned business, Pfeil is today managed by the third generation.

Professional cutting tools and surgical instruments were primarily the first items which Pfeil manufactured. Production of the first carving tools began in 1942. Within a short time, the high quality of the tools created a great following not only among professional carvers, but also among amateurs and schools in many countries around the globe.

The manufacture of Pfeil tools combines state-of-the-art technology with time-tested methods. Pfeil is continuing to develop, produce and expand its assortment of Swiss quality tools, in response to the experience of the Technical College of Wood Carving in Brienz and the practice of professional woodcarvers throughout of the world. We at Pfeil are actively concerned about the environmental impact of our operations. We use our important resources such as water, air and energy as efficiently as possible and minimise their pollution. Investments in water treatment and recycling of production wastes optimise our manufacturing process.

1. Chisel identification number: First digit denotes profile or sweep. Second digit denotes width of cutting-edge, measured side to side in mm.
2. All pfeil tools are sharpened and honed, ready to use.
3. Chrome vanadium steel, special alloy made to pfeil specifications, combines outstanding elasticity with unsurpassed edge-holding properties.
4. Pfeil forge all our own tools.
5. Tools are hardened to edge of bevel. Blades electronically hardened to exacting tolerances. Tempered to HRC 59-61, depending on purpose of tool.
6. The inside sweeps are very finely ground and polished. Al steel surfaces are smooth and matte polished.
7. Full bolster and square tang for optimal stability. Internal steel ferrule under bolster prevents handle from splitting.
8. Hardwood handles from ecologically managed Swiss forests.
9. Wooden handles are finished with solvent-free vegetable oil.
10. Unique manufacturing process guarantees consistent tool shaping and quality.
11. Quality-control inspection at every stage of manufacturing process.
