#93 Large Shoulder Plane
The Luban #93 Large Shoulder Plane is a broader & heavier version of the other Luban Shoulder Planes. Just like its siblings, the #93 it has an adjustable mouth and an extremely smooth blade adjustment mechanism.
At 210mm long and 25mm wide, the Luban #93 Large Shoulder Plane tips the scales at 1,8kg. The body is cast from CR40 steel and precisely ground for squareness. The swan neck lever arm is cast stainless steel.
Shoulder Planes are used for finishing and fine tuning the mating surfaces of joints.
The additional mass of a large shoulder plane provides excellent registration to the corresponding joint surface or planing block, so although they feel huge when you first pick them up, for many applications they are much easier to use than a small or medium sized tool.
T10 Steel, also known as Tool Steel or High Speed Steel is the designation for an alloy made of Carbon steel and Tungsten (W1 in the United States of America). The alloy contains a higher tenor of Carbon compared to other Carbon Steels (about 1%) and a small fraction of silicon (0.35%).
