Lathes

Wood lathes rotate workpieces for turning bowls, spindles, pens and decorative objects.  Variable‑speed controls, spindle indexing and sturdy beds provide accuracy and safety.  Benchtop and full‑size lathes cater to hobbyists and professional turners.

What is a lathe used for?
A lathe is a machine tool that rotates a workpiece against cutting tools to shape, cut, sand, or drill it. Lathes are widely used in woodturning, metalworking, and engineering for creating symmetrical objects like bowls, spindles, or shafts.

What types of lathes are available?
Common types include wood lathes (for woodworking projects), metal lathes (for machining metals with high precision), and mini/bench lathes (compact versions for hobby or small-scale work). Each type is suited to specific materials and applications.

What safety precautions should I take when using a lathe?
Always wear eye protection, tie back long hair and loose clothing, and check that the workpiece is securely mounted. Start at low speeds when roughing and increase only when the piece is balanced. Never leave the lathe running unattended.
