Drills & Hammer Action Drills

Hammer action drills combine rotational drilling with a rapid hammering motion to bore through masonry.  Switchable modes allow you to drill wood or metal without the hammer.  These tools provide higher speed for general drilling tasks than rotary hammers.

What’s the difference between a standard corded drill and a hammer drill?

  • A standard corded drill is perfect for drilling into wood, plastic, and metal.

  • A hammer drill adds a rapid percussive (hammering) action to the rotation, making it suitable for drilling into brick, masonry, and concrete.
    Most modern corded hammer drills can switch between drilling and hammer modes, offering greater versatility for both DIY and trade use.

Why choose a corded drill over a cordless one?

Corded drills provide:

  • Consistent, uninterrupted power—no batteries to charge

  • Higher torque and speed, especially useful for heavy-duty or high-volume work

  • Hammer on/off function for multi-material drilling

  • Keyless chuck (for quick bit changes) or keyed chuck (for better grip on large bits)
