DMT Diamond Sharpening Tools

DMT (Diamond Machining Technology) produces industry leading diamond sharpening stones and files for knives, chisels and planer blades. What sets DMT sharpeners apart from other sharpening stones?

DMT has specialized in monocrystalline diamond sharpening surfaces since 1976. Their stones (e.g. DuoSharp®, Dia‑Sharp®, Diamond Whetstone™) are engineered to stay perfectly flat, resist wear, and provide consistent, fast cutting performance across repeated use—making them ideal for knives, woodworking chisels, and tool maintenance

What’s the difference between DuoSharp® and Dia‑Sharp® stones?

  • DuoSharp® features an interrupted “polka-dot” surface that traps swarf (metal filings), helping prevent clogging and maintain fast cutting. It typically offers double-sided grits or a continuous side in some “Plus” models.

  • Dia‑Sharp®, by contrast, uses a continuous diamond surface, which is ideal for sharpening small or pointed tools because there are no recesses to catch.

How long do DMT diamond stones last, and how should I maintain them?

DMT stones can last several years—but not forever—depending on use and maintenance. Their lifespan is extended by rinsing after use, drying before storage, and occasional cleaning with a toothbrush and abrasive cleaner if clogged. If performance declines, cleaning typically restores effectiveness.
