Cordless Sanders

Orbital, random orbital and belt sanders are now available in cordless formats.  They remove stock quickly and leave smooth finishes on wood, drywall and metal.  Features like variable speed, dust collection bags and hook and loop pad systems ensure efficient sanding without the restriction of a cord.

What types of cordless sanders are available, and how do they differ?

The most common types include:

  • Random Orbital Sanders – versatile, circular motion for smooth, swirl-free finishes on wood, metal, and paint

  • Detail (Triangle) Sanders – ideal for corners, profiles, and fine finishing in tight spaces

  • Belt Sanders (less common cordless) – used for aggressive material removal on large flat surfaces
    Each type suits different jobs—random orbital for general use, detail for precision, and belt for speed on larger surfaces.

Do cordless sanders provide enough power and runtime for real work?

Yes—18V cordless sanders with brushless motors offer excellent performance for most finishing and prep work. Paired with high-capacity batteries (4.0Ah+), they provide plenty of runtime. While not ideal for continuous industrial sanding, cordless models are perfect for on-site jobs, furniture work, or spot refinishing.

What should I look for when buying a cordless sander?

Important features to consider:

  • Variable speed control for adjusting to material type

  • Dust collection (dust bag or vacuum port compatibility)

  • Ergonomics and weight, especially for overhead or detailed work

  • Hook-and-loop pad system for quick abrasive changes
    Make sure it runs on your existing battery platform for seamless integration with your other cordless tools.
